Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

RIIWSV301D - Conduct and maintain well servicing derrick operation

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Plan and prepare derrick operations

  1. Access, interpret and apply compliance documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
  2. Identify, obtain and wear personal protective equipment
  3. Obtain, read, confirm and apply work instructions
  4. Clarify difficulties in carrying out the instructions with the relevant personnel
  5. Identify, manage and report all potential hazards
  6. Resolve coordination requirements with others at the site prior to commencing and during work activities and ensure briefings/handover details are read/passed on
  7. Confirm availability and status of necessary permits to work
  8. Confirm availability of necessary third party utilities in accordance with operational requirements
  9. Confirm availability of required quantities and type of consumables against operational requirements
  10. Select and use/wear personal protective equipment and protective clothing
  11. Identify errors, omissions and shortages and take appropriate remedial action within functional responsibility
